Due to the distributed and 'virtual' nature of the course, the relationship between 'tutors' and 'students' will be more nebulous than in a traditional academic teaching environment; however for some aspects of the course, clear responsibility needs to be assigned for the course to be successful.
The Course Organizers (Peter Murray-Rust and John Overington) together with the Course Tutor (a full-time position at Birkbeck) will be responsible for the course infrastructure and academic management of the course.
Within each participating company, a Course Representative will be required, the role of these individuals is to prepare material for an agreed section of the course, and to manage, and assist the students at their local site. The Course Representative will also be responsible for the implementation of the course, for example to transfer of course material to an internal web server if appropriate.
Together, the Organizers, Tutor, and Representatives make up the Virtual Faculty for the course.
