I have a 980 amino acid protein whose structure is unknown. I wish to learn if this protein belongs to a known family of protein of similar structure.
I am not sure how to go about searching the modeler database to see if at least part of the sequence is similar to another sequence.
Your help would be appreciated.

I suggest you search the protein sequence databases available at these sites :
http://www.ebi.ac.uk/interpro/index.html http://pfam.wustl.edu/ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/BLAST/
hope it helps.
